Godaddy.com???

I'm going to create a myspace style website, but diffrent. Im going to buy a domain and hosting from godaddy.com, but I'm confused about which hosting package to purchse. Someone please explain to me what each package's purpose is and what it offers, because I dont know what SSL sertificate, and mySQL is and what not. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!! https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/hosting/shared.asp?ci=9009

1) There are many differences. If you do not know what the definitions are, you may want to look elsewhere. Now, the differences you should know are here: 1) Size. They differ largely in sizes. You need to look at how much you need. 2) Transfer: I'm not quite sure. This might be how much you can transfer. If you plan on having lots of visitors, higher will be better. 3) Email adresses. Seriously, look and research. Don't expect us to do your homework.

2) Well, mySQL is a database that is usually used when using PHP. SSL means secure socket layer, which lets you use ecommerce and stuff. Basically, each package gives the same features, except there is more disk space, bandwidth, and features (emails, amount of databases available, subdomains, etc) with more expensive plans. I say go with the smallest plan, 10gb disk space, because that's plenty enough for a site starting out.

3) I concur with other replies on this question, I do want to add that... Are you creating a myspace type website? -- If so how do you plan on doing so? -- You might want to learn exactly what MySQL is before tackling this b/c it's something you need to create a user database. You might want to make sure you have the script or have one you've created on your own... Goodluck... if you do know what your doing.

4) Each year you will need to pay for: 1) your domain name registration which allows you to use your unique web name www.yourname.com 2) a hosting service (such as godaddy.com as one example) where you park the files that make up your website. In addition - you will need a way to create and edit your web pages - either by buying software like Dreamweaver or by using an online application - such as the one Godaddy can offer you. Godaddy calls it SiteBuilder. You may also need a photo editor to get your pics into the right size and resolution for inserting into your web pages. If you are going to start up an online store, that's more complicated because you will need a store front site, shopping cart and a way to take credit card orders securely (thus the SSL certificate). Godaddy also offers online store services. The store is more complicated and you need a merchant account.... etc. If you plan on collecting any kind of data, or listing data of any kind on your site, you need a place to store the data - thus the SQL database. If you are just going to have a few regular web pages with some photos, get the cheapest GoDaddy package. That's all you need!! I recommend getting the Windows Economy Plan at around $4 per month. I wouldn't get any of the options they offer either. You most likely don't need them. Good luck and have fun!

5) Dude, you can do MUCH Better the GoDaddy, they are more concerned with quantity, not Quality. I host with a company called Armed Hosting. They are definately better. I tried GoDaddy a few years ago and from what I hear they have not gotten any better. You can Visit Armed Hosting at http://armedhosting.com/clients/cart.php?gid=0000000001 Another option http://pAsM-Networks.com Feel free to IM or e-mail if you need any help

6) You can find step by step guide on how to make a website at website like http://oktutorial.com/webdesign.htm .

7) Warning: Don’t sign up for Godaddy!!! According to what I have heard on different forums some clients had problems with Godaddy. If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today. As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them. They are a Multi-awarded Web Hosting which offer a Full-featured service only $6.95 a month. Their service is really perfect and uptime. Here I have copied and pasted its features from their website to view: - Free Domain Forever - Unlimited Space - Unlimited Transfer - Host UNLIMITED Domains (Support All Domain Names) - 2,500 POP/Imap Email Accounts - SSH (Secure Shell), SSL, FTP, Stats - CGI, Ruby (RoR), Perl, PHP, MySQL - 2000/2002 Front Page Extensions - Free Site Builder - 24/7 Superb/Responsive Sales/Support - Free Search Engine Submission They also offer "Free Site Builder" that helps you build your web pages without difficulty if you are not skilled in using any website creating program.
