Why is Esurance so cheap? Are they a good company?
I'm in NY, and apparently insurance is way more expensive here for whatever reason. Well everyone in my family has gone to Esurance to get a quote, and it's WAY cheaper there. I mean we're talking $100-200 less a month. Progressive wants $300 a month for me and my mom on the same plan... which is about the same as other quotes I've got. Esurance wants $140. I can't help but wonder if it's a big scam or something.1) Esurance is the next best thing to Nationwide. Have you tried that insurance company or gotten a quote? I am a 18 yr old female with a sports car. Nationwide charged me about 15 dollars less a month than what Esurance did. www.nationwide.com https://nisecure.nationwide.com/autoquote/secure/OnlineQuoteCustomerInfo.asp EDIT: I have never met my insurance agent in person, but he is very nice and informative. When I got my policy, I was given to option to do EVERYTHING online, or if I wanted to also get my stuff connected with the nearest Nationwide Agent. I called the first day that my insurance was in effect, and I was very satisfied with their customer service (I actually talked to the agent, not to any of the assistants), and I didnt even ask. I think you should try to get a quote....however....please read this. 2) No, it's probably not a scam but is doesn't hurt to check them out through the better business bureau. Also, what ever insurance company you chose, make sure you get everything in writing from them. Anything that sounds to good to be true, chances are you want it in writing or some form of a reciept. Please, don't be bashful asking for even an address or even a member of management to go over the policy your being offered.
3) esurance complaints Showing 1-10 of 6,320 Beware Steep Premium Increase Product/Service: Insurance 3/22/2004 My Esurance premium went up almost $200 after the first 6 months with no claims or tickets. Esurance's explanation was it was because they had a "rate review" and increased their rates. Only they refused to send any documentation of their review. Don't get sucked in by the initial low rate promise. Even if you have a clean driving record your rate will go up. Esurance is an E-rip-off! Esurance Scam Product/Service: Insurance 2/7/2007 Sioux Falls SD Senior Esurance employees scan the Internet for negative comments about "their" company. These as usually full-blown zealots that will tell the public anything to protect Esurance. I know this because I use to sit by three different zealots in the 2 years I was there. Allow me to run the scam outline by you again and explain. You take out an Esurance policy. You're required to present proof of prior insurance to Esurance - so you send it. But alas...your proof of prior insurance doesn't get processed. So the company computer rerates you for a higher amount. (The amount assessed for someone who has no history of prior insurance). And then the computer takes out a huge amount from your account to make up the difference for the rerate. You find out from your bank or cc company that a huge amount was taken from your account, and you hit the ceiling. You then call in very mad. Is this illegal? No...but just barely. Because if you're aware that the money was taken out of your account, and you're willing to call in - Esurance might take care of the problem. Keep in mind that a significant percentage of people won't notice or call in, or want to fight it, so Esurance keeps the extra money after the rerate. (Which is a lot - taken times the total number of customers that don't call). So even if you should make the call to customer service. They tell you that the Processing Dept. checks Proof of Prior Insurance emails and letters in the order they're received, and they'll notify you when the correction is made. During the same time YOUR background can be further investigated to see if you have any speeding tickets, accidents, etc. that could lead to a justified increase. (So they can keep part the money taken from your account the second time). These games go on and on. All legal - but not the way I would want to treat people. Then there's the issue of fees. The fees are outrageous, and the system programmers have found cleaver ways of making the fees, and other , less obvious to find for people that aren't very observant. Want to hear more stories? Let me cut to the chase. Don't give Esurance your card number. Go elsewhere. Because if you don't. I'll be here to say - I told you. That is 2 of thousands. Beware of rates too good to be true.
4) we have had esurance for three years, with one claim and no premium raises. it took a few days to get my truck adjusted because they use independent adjusters. but at the same time there was a big ice storm, and he had a lot of vehicles to adjust.
5) They're relatively new. Which means, they haven't paid a lot of claims - which saves money. They're also "paperfree" to save money; however, they have a lot of fees.
6) I have heard of some people not being satisfied with the service at Esurance. Its very difficult to reach an actual live person if you need help. Your best bet is to shop around with a few independent agents, that way you can compare the quotes of a bunch of carriers by only dealing with 3or4 people. The bottom line is insurance is very expensive in NY so you have to shop around to make sure you have the best price. The best way to shop is with someone who can offer you multiple companies quotes in one shot. Search the web for Independent Agents & Brokers of NY and then do an agent search for your zipcode.... good luck hunting!
